Google Android and Noklear Holocaust

nokia-s60-android.jpgWhen compared to the industry leader, the Nokia S60, the Google Android platform on Google’s “Dream” phone is pretty much like comparing a rock, some string, and a paper towel to my computer. Don’t get me wrong, the S60 was good, and for the technically adept it is the perfect phone for right now, but when looking at the way the Google Android interface faces up, it gets to be like the Fonz getting ready to jump the S60. What does this mean for Nokia? Well, it means two things really. They have a solid platform, they have a good phone, and they are good, so they can adapt to greatness, or they can fail. Nokia could adopt Google Android – and totally maintain domination of their phones I should assume. Or they could take note of what Google Android’s platform and interface does – and adapt to it that way, making their interface as smooth and friendly. Or they could “Stay the course” and end up in a quagmire.

Google Android Phone App shows itself

google-android-screenshots.gifRecently new Google Android Phone in development, based on the Open Handset Alliance platform, has had several functionality screenshots released – one of which is quite impressive for a phone. It is an entire application that shows you a map, and what is open. Consider the significance of this. It will show you where you are, and on your mobile phone you will know what stores, restaurants, bars, shopping centers, and anything else that has an open sign (liquor store) are open, and what time they open or close. In other words it can become quite a life-safer if you’re out on a date, and find yourself looking for the closest open restaurant. Or if you were dumped, and are looking for the closest liquor store, and later closest hospital for the inevitable alcohol poisoning associated with said searches. The other significance of this application is that it is one of the first for the “Dream” phone and Google Android Platform.

google-android.jpgThus far the Google Android Mobile Phone developments have seen around five different prototypes all based on the Open Handset Alliance Google Android platform, and thus far functionality of some of these mobile phones has brought into question how long the iPhone can remain dominant. Thus far the “Dream” design seems to be innovative, having a swivel keyboard that comes out and adjusts the screen to a horizontal display when in use, and it has several touch screen functions that the iPhone does not (time sensitivity being a major one, where how long you touch is also interpreted by the phone). The future plans for the phone and for Google is for the Open Handset Alliance platform to be released, and then the future of it will be in Google’s hands (since they already have the whole world in their hands). What is next is a massive allocation of resources to this project that will likely spawn from it many more people using the internet on mobile devices and mobile phones, and maybe a few more car accidents.
