We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors and speculations surrounding an Intel Medfield-powered smartphone with Android 4.0 for a while now and we are glad to announce that this has been finally made official.

The Lenovo K800 has been revealed at the 2012 CES in Las Vegas and will hit the market in Q2 of this year. Unfortunately, it will only be made available in China, according to official statements, but this might change really fast, considering that the K800 looks like a possible crowd pleaser in the US and Europe as well.

Running Android 4.0 out of the box and featuring a 1.6 GHz Intel Medfield processor, the 4.5-inch smartphone looks like a real beast on paper. The TFT screen will play 720p video clips, according to the manufacturers (the exact resolution is yet to be specified) and the Lenovo K800 will also feature an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 3200.

I don’t know about you, but I personally get excited reading these features and specs and can’t imagine what I would do if I could get my hands on this monster of a smartphone!

In terms of connectivity, the 4.5-incher from Lenovo will be compatible with HSPA+ and will of course feature Bluetooth 3.0, 802. 11 b/g/n WiFi and GPS. The smartphone should additionally feature 3G and 4G LTE connectivity by the time it will hit the US (or rather, if it will ever hit the US).

No details on pricing just yet, but it’s pretty clear that we are dealing with a premium gadget, set to be made available at a not-so-affordable price tag.

Keep in touch with Androinica.com in the coming weeks or so for details about the possible release of the Android 4.0 Intel Medfield-powered Lenovo K800 in the United States and/or in Europe!

Even though we are still a few hours away from the official start of the CES 2012, Lenovo has already thrown its fresh troupes into battle. With two new additions to its tablet line-up, the Chinese multinational technology company looks like it is getting ready to fight with the big guys in the coming year.

The first Lenovo tablet to be unveiled in Las Vegas, the IdeaTab S2, runs Android 4.0 and should attract some attention due to its high level of functionality. Being solidly built, robust, but also fairly elegant and stylish, the S2 comes with a detachable keyboard dock that should make it go into direct competition with the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and Transformer Prime.

Weighing in at 1.27 pounds, the IdeaTab S2 is powered by a Qualcomm 8960 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and features 1 GB of RAM. Sporting a 10.1-inch screen with 1280 x 800 pixels, Lenovo’s 10-incher should hit the stores in Q2 of 2012 for a starting price of 399 dollars (the 16 GB Wi-Fi only version). Oh, right, I almost forgot. The IdeaTab S2 should come with an impresive 20 hours of battery life when docked with the optional keyboard. Now tell me that you aren’t interested in such a gizmo!

Lenovo IdeaPad K2

The second Lenovo addition to the tablet market is the IdeaPad K2, a more stylish, but also snappier gadget. The matte textured exterior makes the slate elegant, but also easy to hold and grip, but what you should be interested in is what this slate has packed at the interior.

Powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the slate should compete head to head with the likes of the Acer Iconia Tab A700. The fingerprint reader, as well as the 8 MPx rear-facing camera, are very nice touches that make the tablet look and feel premium, while the number of ports and connectivity options are set to complete a very well-balanced gadget.

You get a full-size USB port, an SD card reader, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G. However, there’s no HDMI port, which for me personally it’s a pretty important downside. The 10.1 screen is set to come with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution on the other hand, which is pretty great!

No words on pricing yet, while in terms of availability, the tablet should start shipping sometime in Q2 of 2012.

The latest rumor surrounding the Lenovo OPhone is calling for a release to come as early as May. The news is coming courtesy of DigiTimes who are reporting that China Mobile will launch the “iPhone-like smartphone” in May. Unfortunately the details of the launch are pretty light.

What is interesting is that, assuming the May launch is accurate, then it will hit the market ahead of the iPhone. If that does happen it should be interesting to see how it plays out once the iPhone becomes available. Could launching first put a dent in potential iPhone sales in China?

In addition to (hopefully) offering some competition to the iPhone in the Chinese market, there are plenty of people who simply want to see the custom Android build that it will be running, and once it is released I am sure we will see plenty more screenshots and video.

The Lenovo O Phone has finally been toyed with in video, and it looks worth the wait. Aside from the iPhone-esque appearance of certain aspects of the user interface, the O Phone is pretty snazzy. The phone has Android guts but a unique way of changing screens and appears to be very fast. Observe the video below to get a glimpse of the upcoming O Phone. NOTE: I experienced great difficulty getting this video to display in Firefox or Chrome. Users who experience similar problems in those browsers should try using Internet Explorer like I did.

The O Phone sports an Android-based operating system, 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, microSD card slot, and the ability to stream video from TV. Judging by the video, that will just be another aspect to a great media experience. China Mobile may unleash this beast of a phone in the near future.

The Lenovo OPhone, the Android-based handset that appears to have ripped-off the iPhone UI a little bit is once again in front of the camera. The latest images show off the handset with a full display and offer a clear glimpse of both the Lenovo and China Mobile branding.

Aside from the images, which do give us a nice look, we unfortunately have little new information as far as specs, pricing or the availability. What we do have in terms of specs is that the OPhone is running OMS (Open Mobile System) which is a fork of Android and that it will have Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, a microSD card slot, streaming TV and TD-SCDMA (China’s 3G Standard). Otherwise, the launch is currently rumored to be closely following the launch of the HTC <del datetime="2009-04-02T13:12:13+00:00">Magic</del> Dopod G2.

In the meantime, we can at least enjoy the pics…

It is expected that Android phones will begin to have different user interfaces over time. A good UI goes a long way for making a phone stick out from the pack. But what good is a new interface if it bears an obvious resemblance to one of the most recognizable phones around?

A Chinese blog has posted images of the Lenovo OPhone that show the Android phone with an incredibly iPhone-esque appearance. From the black and gray notification bar to the glossy button icons, the phone is clearly a take on Apple’s mobile phone. We’ve seen plenty of Android home screen alternatives offer skins made to look like the iPhone, but an official rip of the interface straight out of the box? Poor form.

Lenovo deserves credit for trying to distinguish itself from the Android onslaught expected this year, but duplicating the iPhone’s look isn’t the way to go about it. This is imitation on overdrive and probably going to get the company in legal trouble. I’d love to see more companies try to change Android’s look, but they shouldn’t both unless they plan to actually create something new.

Here are some recently leaked images of the upcoming Android-based Lenovo OPhone, and what can we really say, this is a nice looking handset. I really like my G1, but this seems to be on another level. Anyway, wiping away my drool and getting back to the details, on a slightly disappointing note, the OPhone is not slated to be available here in North America. Instead it will see a release only in China.

Other details include a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, video recording, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth and a Chinese/English virtual keyboard. Hopefully we will see some official specs come soon, I for one am interested to see what other secrets the OPhone holds. Aside from that, I can only hope that they eventually re-brand the phone with a better name, I cannot help but be reminded of the movie Office Space.
