A leaked Dell device roadmap is showing that a Honeycomb future isn’t too far off. The Dell roadmap has their first Honeycomb tablet, the Dell Gallo, slated for April. Following that will be the Dell Sterling in October, and the Opus One and Silver Oak tablets coming in October. There are no specs given on any of these tablets, nor any indication if the names are codenames or not, but I hope that at least “Gallo” is a codename. I can handle the other names, but that name brings back bad memories of Vincent Gallo and “The Brown Bunny”. Also on the tablet roadmap is a “Handwriting” upgrade for the Dell Streak, landing in July, and the same upgrade for the Gallo in October.

On the smartphone side of things, Dell has 2 phones listed: the Hancock and the Millenium. Both phones look to be packing similar specs. The Hancock is listed with a dual-core processor, 4″ qHD display, 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera, and “1080p”, but no indication if that is output or recording capability. The Hancock also looks to feature a slide-out keyboard. The Millenium has similar specs, but with a 4.3″ qHD display, DLNA support and no physical keyboard. The interesting thing is that both are listed as running “Ice Cream” as the OS. The Hancock is listed for late August, and the Millenium for October, so if the listing is right, that would confirm the “Ice Cream launching in summer” rumor that’s been floating around.

If you have followed any of my posts, or even some of Andrew’s, you may know that I am obsessed with BlackBerry or Palm Pre style form factor. When I heard that Dell was making the Dell Venue for Android and it was a close sibling of the Dell Venue Pro Windows 7 portrait slider, I was all in. After months of rumors and crushed dreams, we finally saw that the Dell Venue is basically the same phone as the Dell Venue Pro, but with no stinking slide-out QWERTY. Bummer.

All that aside, the Venue is a sweet device and after a little time overseas, the US will finally get their hands on the Venue from Dell either for T-Mobile or AT&T for a cool $500. The Venue features a 4.1-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen, 1GHz QSD (Snapdragon) processor, 8MP camera /HD video with auto-focus, and a measly 1GB internal storage with expansion via microSD up to 32Gb. For better or for worse, Dell also seems to be clinging onto their Stage UI for the Venue. Also, after looking at the sample picture from theVenue’s camera on Dell’s site, it looks like mega-pixels is not translating into quality, as we have seen with many other Android devices.

Something strange here is that the phone is deemed “unlocked” but you can buy either a T-Mobile or AT&T version. How about we just say that the phone is at full retail price? That sounds better. Anyways, if you have 500 big ones burning a whole in your pocket and you want a Dell Venue Pro that runs Android sans awesome slide-out keyboard, then you may want to check out Dell’s site to see what it’s all about.

While an Android version of Windows Phone 7-based Dell Venue Pro is indeed heading to the market, it will be sans keyboard.

South Korean KT is releasing the Dell Venue, an Android phone with a 4.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with Corning’s durable curved Gorilla Glass. The phone runs Android 2.2 and appears to have the custom launcher created by Dell called Stages.

The “Pro”-less Dell Venue will cost 700,000 won ($608 USD) when it goes on sale at the end of the month in Korea. Dell has not yet announced availability of the phone in any other market. We can only pray – for Chris’s sake – that this phone will come stateside with the physical keyboard it was meant to have.

In an attempt to make the The Dell Streak relevant before the holiday season is over, Dell and AT&T are finally bringing it the Android 2.2 update users have been waiting for. When the Dell Streak was released in August it embarrassingly shipped with Android 1.6 on board with a quick update to 2.1 about a month later.

The Froyo update brings all of the expected enhancements of Android to the Streak along with some added functionality from Dell. This includes a new “Dell Stage” homescreen addition that helps organize your homescreens, Swype has replaced the stock keyboard that Dell included, and a small change in the 3G indicator in the notification bar. I think that most could live without the new “Dell Stage” interface, but the additions of Froyo is always a good thing with the most notable being the speed improvements.

Dell is set to launch new colors of the Streak at Best Buy coming soon. The new face lift may help bring on some needed success for the device, but in my opinion, no one other than enthusiasts want a 5-inch screened smartphone. I think that we may have found the sweet spot for devices around 4 to 4.3 inches. It seems like the Dell Streak needs more than a color change and an OS upgrade to be popular amongst consumers.

The device is codenamed Opus One, and is said to feature a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor that might be from Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon series. The capacitive touchscreen will supposedly still be 5-inches, just like on the Streak, but with a higher 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Finally, the source says that Dell has plans to release this big-screened beast in March 2011, four months from now.

Like all rumors, this one should be taken with a grain of salt, as the Opus One may never make it to the market. However, with all the upcoming high-resolution screens, second-generation Snapdragon processors, dual-core Orion and Tegra2 CPUs, massive amounts of RAM and powerful GPUs – 2011 is destined to take the hardware of Android phones to the next level.

Stage is Dell’s own custom Android interface, and it will be brought to the 5-inch Streak along with the Android 2.2 update for the device. In Japan, the update will apparently arrive in early December when the Streak is launched on the SoftBank network over there, but Streak owners in the U.S. and Europe are expected to get Froyo even sooner.

You might be able to beat Dell to the punch, though, since an unofficial Froyo build for the Streak with the Stage Launcher on it leaked out last month, and the UI has now been ported to other devices. Stage is basically a launcher with its own set of widgets, such as Social, Music, Contacts, Email, and so forth. Each widget takes up an entire screen, and the launcher has a horizontal app drawer that can be accessed by swiping upwards. If you rock a Froyo device with a WVGA resolution, you can try it for yourself by heading to the xda-developers. Root access is not required. Below is a video of the Stage UI running on an HTC Evo.

Someone please pinch me. If you missed the Windows Phone 7 announcement a couple of weeks ago then you may have missed one of the best form factored devices to hit the streets (at least in my book), the Dell Venue Pro. With the release of the Venue Pro coming on November 8th, there is also some rumors floating around that us Android lovers will be able to partake in an Android based version.

According to PC World Dell is set to release an Android version of the Venue Pro, sometime “in the future”. They have no set date, carrier, or price for the device but PC World insists that it is coming. The Venue Pro is a 4.1″ capacitive touch screen device with a slide-out, portrait QWERTY keyboard. This device caught our eye earlier this year during the big Dell leak that Engadget scooped. The only thing holding it back in our minds at the time was Windows Phone 7. But, hey, why not have the best of both worlds with one of the most exciting looking devices we have seen in a while?

If and when this device comes to market with Android, it’s going to be hard not to run out and buy it. So what do you say commenters? Is the Dell Venue Pro a form factor that Android needs or should it’s awkwardness be left in the cold?

American users of the Dell Streak may still be on Android 1.6, but Streak users on O2 are being treated to Android 2.1. O2 is currently sending out over the air updates that bring the Streak up from Donut to Éclair, and there are plenty of new features packed into the newer version of Dell’s custom Android experience.

The Streak is now capable of pinch-to-zoom multi-touch, 720p video recording, and multiple Exchange accounts. It has also been upgraded to include support for live wallpapers, a larger number of apps available for download, and several features/fixes previously unavailable in Android 1.6.

Streak users anxious to apply the update can search for it now by navigating to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates. If all else fails, download at this link. Be sure to backup critical information because his update wipes everything on the phone! The SD card is not affected, but you will lose text messages and call logs, so use an app like SMS Backup+ or My Backup Pro to secure that information. Apps will be available to re-install the first time you log into the Android Market.

[Thanks, Liam!]

It seems that Dell has taken their “good ol’ time” getting any phones into the US market, but as of today they have two available now on AT&T. The Dell Aero is available now for a mere $99.99 on two-year contract or $299.99 without it (AT&T only).

The Aero hosts a 624Mghz Marvell Processor, a 5MP camera w/ LED flash, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5″ capacitive touchscreen, and Android 1.5 (considered to be upgradeable). The Aero has a decent form factor and has a custom user interface on top of the stock Android OS. The Aero also includes stereo headphones, a Micro USB adapter, and a 2GB MicroSD card.

If you aren’t blown away it’s for good reason. Most people have been pretty down on the Aero, mostly because of it’s lackluster features. There really is no reason for the Aero to be $99 on contract; a phone that is this “entry-level” should be free on contract especially when you can pruchase an iPhone 3G for the same price. With only Android 1.6, a slower processor, and a UI that has been reported to be clunky, it makes me wonder what Dell is up to. Dell hasn’t really made the right impression in the US with the expensive Streak and they are definitely not hitting the right note with the Aero. Watch the price drop on the Aero in a matter of months.

Remember that series of leaks related to Dell’s upcoming Android phones? Now is your chance to finally get a look at it in a form other than rendered graphics.

A tipster got his hands on the device in its very, very early stages. So early that it’s running stock Android instead of the custom OS skin/version that we’re almost sure to see once this thing comes to market.

The device looks an awful lot like a Windows Phone 7 creation to me, but perhaps that’s because Dell has opted to make its Thunder and Lightning (WinPhone7) have more of a resemblance than just catchy names. The Thunder is running Android 2.1 (for now), has an 8 megapixel camera with LED Flash, 720p video recording, and a 4.1-inch OLED touchscreen.

Head over to Engadget.com for a short video of the phone.
