HTC: The One will not launch on Verizon Wireless

Even though HTC did not specify Verizon Wireless as a partner carrier in the United States for the HTC One, a report came out several days ago claiming the One would actually launch on Verizon.  Unfortunately, HTC quickly shot down that rumor and any attempt for the One to explicitly launch on Verizon Wireless.

A couple of days ago, HTC tweeted in response to a user: “The HTC One will not be available on the Verizon network, but have you seen the awesome, #DROIDDNA? http://s.htc.com/12Tl1kj.”

However, it appears Verizon Wireless may launch a successor to the DROID DNA that won’t be the One, but a similar type of device.  According to a couple of FCC filings, the device may be known as the DLX Plus implying a DROID DNA+ smartphone.

Either way, I don’t agree with HTC’s approach to Verizon Wireless.  HTC’s main intent with the One brand is to launch a single flagship smartphone on hundreds of carriers across the globe.  Launching a separate Verizon Wireless device makes marketing that much harder.  Now HTC has to market for the One and the Verizon Wireless DNA successor.  As of now the DNA successor is a rumor as well, but HTC will need something on Verizon Wireless to counter the Samsung Galaxy S 4.
