Starbucks Android app launches in Canada and UK, adds PayPal, widget, and more

Just got into the office after making your morning run to Starbucks? You could have used the Starbucks Android app, which got a nice little update today. And it expanded to support Canada and the United Kingdom. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new.

The Starbucks Android app has a new design with tabs for Rewards, which shows your MyStarbucks Rewards history; Cards, which shows your stored cards for payments; and Stores, which shows a map of the nearest Starbucks locations. A new 4×1 widget that shows your current balance, rewards points, and can be tapped to go directly to the Locations page.

For U.S. and Canadian customers, there’s also a new option to Pay with PayPal. This allows customers to reload their Starbucks cards with PayPal funds instantly. And to protect your financial info within the app, users can set-up a PIN code safeguard.

Starbucks users can manage their cards and see how close they are to their next rewards. The app requires Android 2.2 and is available now in Google Play. I see some people saying the app launches other apps and is tearing through their battery but I’ve tested on a Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC EVO 4G and haven’t seen that happen.
