Amazon is rumored to launch two new tablets in the coming months: a 7 inch successor to the original Kindle Fire and a 10 inch tablet to compete directly with the iPad. However, according to a recent report by Reuters citing the President of Staples (Demos Parneros), Amazon is poised to launch five or six different tablets.
It is worth noting that there could simply be two models (a 7 inch and 10 inch model) and multiple variants on the storage capacity leading to six different devices. In any case, the claim from the Staples exec provides more truth to past Amazon rumors and I’m very certain that we will see two new and different tablets from Amazon before 2012 is over.
The 7 inch tablet will obviously take over for the original Kindle Fire and compete directly with the Nexus 7 and other 7 inch devices. The 10 inch Amazon tablet will battle against the iPad, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and other notable 10 inch tablets. Whether Amazon is successful or not depends on how much high-end hardware it can equip in the tablet while keeping the price low. Amazon’s end goal is to hook up each tablet with as much of its proprietary digital media apps as possible to generate sales and revenue.
It’s only a matter of days now before Amazon is rumored to announce its upcoming tablets, so stay tuned folks!
