Toshiba seems to be having some difficulty with upgrading the original Toshiba Thrive and Toshiba Thrive 7 tablets to Android 4.0. Previous word from Toshiba claimed that the much anticipated from Android 3.2 to Android 4.0 would take place this Spring, but with Summer already underway, many Thrive owners are left Ice Cream Sandwich-less.
Based on a recent announcement by Toshiba, the Android 4.0 upgrade for the Thrive and Thrive 7 will go live some time in the fall. While some may be skeptical of Toshiba’s ability to roll-out Android 4.0 to the Thrive and Thrive 7, I firmly believe Toshiba will make good on its word to deploy Android 4.0 as it is in their best interest. If Toshiba wants to be successful with future Android products, it has to prove to the consumers that it is committed to upgrading its older products.
We’ll keep you folks in the loop should Toshiba announce anything different, but as of now expect the upgrade to drop in the fall. The full announcement from Toshiba can be read below.
We are working hard to bring Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich to our Thrive tablets. While we originally estimated it would be ready this spring, we now estimate the update will be delivered to all Thrive 10” and 7” tablets by early fall. Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
