We can finally stop guessing when the Galaxy S III will make its debut, and quit the parade of phony devices claiming to be Samsung’s next flagship phone. Android’s top phone seller has finally confirmed that it will take the veil off its next major product next month.
Samsung is sending out invitations to a Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in London on May 3, 2012. At the event, the company will let writers “Come and the meet the next Galaxy.” That’s what we’ve wanted to do for months, but that wasn’t possible since the company opted not to show the GS III at Mobile World Congress..
The invitation seems to lend a clue about what to expect from the Galaxy S III. Previous rumors suggested that Samsung had developed a special kind of ceramic for the outer shell of the phone, and the invitation has a glossy, brushed surface that might represent such a design. The globs of blue and white might also be the phone colors used.
As for other specs of the phone, we can guess based on trends that it will likely have a large A HD screen (4.5-4.8 inches), Touchwiz UX layered over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a quad-core processor. There’s also a chance that it might have one of the best video cameras seen on a mobile device. My money is on Samsung choosing its own Exynos for the international market and perhaps switching to Qualcomm for the U.S. so it can support LTE networks. However, I’d welcome an Exynos with LTE support, so cross your fingers.
A livestream of the event will be available at Facebook.com/samsungmobile. The stream will start shortly before the event on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012, at 1 PM Eastern time.
