The Samsung Galaxy S II has finally (started) updating to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich last week, but unfortunately no other Samsung device will get a taste of ICS by the end of the month. Sorry, Galaxy Note adopters, it seems that your waiting period has once again been extended.
When you should expect the actual Ice Cream Sandwich update to come after all? Well, sometime in Q2 2012, if we are to believe Samsung’s claims, which could mean anytime from April 1st to June 30th. Also, considering all the shenaningans Samsung or Asus have pulled lately with their ICS update schedules, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the Galaxy Note will be upgraded sometimes in July or August (or maybe never, who knows?).
Well, let’s not be too pessimistic though, especially given the fact that Samsung has just announced that it will come with an additional special software update for the Galaxy Note ‘’phablet’’. The ‘’Premium Suite’’ will offer a bunch of features and applications especially designed to take advantage of the gadget’s S-Pen accessory.
Intrigued? Well, it’s not much and it doesn’t sound like anything extraordinary, but it’s something and it might take your mind off the fact that the ‘’next best thing’’ is still running that raggedy Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The ‘’Premium Suite’’ will include Shape Match and Formula Match, applications that help correct and digitize geometric shapes, as well as My Story, an app that allows you to create personalized digital cards.
There will also be an Angry Birds Space special level available exclusively to Galaxy Note users, along with a package of 30 challenging ‘’Danger Zone’’ stages for the Rovio Entertainment game which will have to be unpacked within a three-month period to be free.
All in all, this Samsung press release qualifies for a classic ‘’good news-bad news’’ scenario, but if you ask me the bad news here will certainly overwhelm the good news and once again enrage technology users. How about it, Galaxy Note adopters, are you finally fed up with Samsung’s delays or are you still willing to wait it out and hope for the best?
