Pantech IM-A830S

2012 seems like the perfect year to heat things up in the smartphone market, as companies like ZTE and Huawei look keen on providing serious competition for Apple, Samsung or HTC, the market’s ‘’veterans’’.

Aside from ZTE and Huawei, though, another modest (until now, that is) manufacturer might have a say in the market’s fight for dominance. I’m talking about Pantech, who is gearing towards the release of a very interesting smartphone, known for the time being by its codename, IM-A830S.

The IM-A830S has had a benchmark leaked last week, which gave us the chance to find out a couple of its tech specs, and an additional benchmark has just popped up on the web, giving us a peek of the smartphone’s performance.

The NenaMark 2 results for Pantech’s future flagship are pretty interesting, with the smartphone’s performance being tested four times. The minimum score is far from impressive (44.30), but the maximum (57.00) confirms what we only suspected a week back. The IM-A830S has what it takes to be at least a strong mid-range to high-end competitor nowadays and, with the help of an appropriate price tag, it might put Pantech on the map.

What’s more interesting is that the IM-A830S looks set to have a twin brother upon its release, codenamed IM-A830L. This smartphone will most definitely have the same tech specs as the first Pantech handheld and will either be a special edition of the gadget destined for just one carrier or will come with some kind of design originality touches. Either way, I’m certainly intrigued by this device too, as it has scored a more than decent 52.60 in NenaMark2’s benchmark.

As far as supposed tech specs and features go, I unfortunately have nothing new to report, so things stand as we knew them last week. Just as a quick reminder for those of you who missed our initial story, the Pantech IM-A830S (and the IM-A830L, for that matter) will come with a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, an HD 1280 x 720 pixels resolution screen and the running of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
