Android App Reviews, Sports
Major League Baseball is giving Android another swing with the release of its At Bat application. Available now in the Android Market, MLB.com At Bat has arrived just in time for the Spring season with promises of more features to come on Opening Night.
At Bat 12 is the companion app for all baseball fans, and is split into a standard Lite version and premium version that allows access to live video and audio streaming. Unlike previous seasons, MLB.tv subscribers will not need to pay an additional $14.99 for the privilege; users can simply use their MLB credentials within At Bat Lite and gain access with their existing subscription plan.
While the majors are in Florida and Arizona playing Spring ball, users can keep track of the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. They can also get batter-by-batter updates, news stories, a widget to see scores, an icon of your favorite team, division and league standings, and video. All of which is displayed in a new UI that follows the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich design conventions. At Bat looks a lot better this year, especially on tablets.
The Premium version of At Bat offers radio broadcasts and a searchable video archive. More features will arrive in an update later this month, according to the Android Market listing. When the first pitch is thrown on April 4, expect the season to start with a better app (once again, MLB.tv subscribers don’t need to buy the premium version, just log in with your credentials on At Bat Lite).
Android 2.2 or higher is required for At Bat, and some devices may not be compatible.

I’m running ICS on an HTC Rezound. I am getting a message from the Market that says the app is not compatible with my device.
I get the same with my Galaxy S II Skyrocket. The funny thing is, the app ran fine on the previous Gingerbread version (2.3.5), but isn’t compatible with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3). This is very disappointing.
Why is the Android app dependent on the Mobile Carrier? Living in Europe, not being able to use e.g. Verizon, I’m basically cut off from live streaming. Using my HTC Incredible over WiFi, it does not work because of my mobile carrier!?! Life sucks…
Is there no live video streaming support for Android devices? If so, this is every misleading. http://mlb.mlb.com/mobile/atbat/ claims that Android has live video…stupid….
There’s live video only for MLB.tv subscribers. You have to login with your MLB credentials to use that feature. I’m not sure if it’s available in spring training, but MLB says it will definitely be there on opening night.
Logged in with my credentials on phone and checked mlb.com for what games were live, and every time i long click the base to bring up the option for radio or tv, and click tv it takes me to basic gameday view. I went on Mlb.com and logged in with the same credentials and was able to steam over the comp…but I would rather stream over phone..
So I was trying with my tablet (touchpad ported to android) and it didnt have video support. I logged in with my phone and it had video. The video is laggy :/ boo. Every year its laggy..
I am not getting video on my HTC Rezound and I called MLB.TV support since I do have the premium service. They said that there is an issue with streaming to HTC phones and they are working on an update. I was a bit pissy since the MLB site says it work with HTC phones but it is clearly missing features. I am not getting what I paid for. Still Ilove it for my PC/PS3/XBOX. Video last year was slow and choppy on my Driod. I was hoping the new 4G phone would be beter but now I have no video.
Works fine on my HTC Inspire
I am running @BatLite (with Premium .tv sub) on 2 ICS devices; NexusS and HPTouchpad. They are almost on par with iOS, but the video options need some more support. (Technically unsupported, the HP Touchpad with ICS, video quality doesn’t seem up to par) It may be the wifi, will follow this over the next week. Go Cardinals 12 in 12!
