In an attempt to bolster its smartphone lineup, U.S. Cellular recently announced that it would begin selling the highly acclaimed Samsung Galaxy S II in the near future. The Galaxy S II will command a $229 price tag on a two year contract with the regional carrier, however, this price comes after a $100 MIR.
In terms of specs and features, the Galaxy S II boasts a 4.52 inch touch screen display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8MP rear facing camera, a front facing camera, 16GB on board memory, and Android 2.3. Unfortunately, it will only have access to U.S. Cellular’s 3G network, which is sure to disappoint some of the interested customers as it will not run on its LTE network. An Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Galaxy S II is presumably in order, but that will not come until weeks after the device launches.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S II represents a nice, high-end option for customers looking to sign or renew their contract with U.S. Cellular, and I imagine we will find out its exact launch date in the coming weeks.
