HTC Flyer

If you are in the market for an affordable Android-based tablet these days and you can’t decide what to get, the nice folks at buy.com may have just given you an unexpected hand and made your choice easier. The 7-inch HTC Flyer is a more than decent slate and is for a limited time available for just 199.99 dollars.

Sure, we are talking about a refurbished model with just 16 GB of on-board memory and no 3G connectivity, but it’s still a darn good slate packing some nice tech specs and featuring probably a one-of-a-kind screen with optional pen stylus and digitizer.

The Flyer on sale at buy.com also comes with a 90-day manufacturer’s warranty, so if you happen to get a faulty gadget, you can always return it and change it for a working model. However, it’s not like there’s an actual risk of something like that happening, because in 99.99 percent of cases a refurbished slate is almost as functional as a new one.

The special offer comes at a pretty great time if we take into consideration the fact that the Flyer has been finally confirmed for an Android 3.2 Honeycomb update. On the other hand, if you are looking to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, you should probably hold out for something else, as I personally doubt the Flyer will be upgraded anytime soon (or ever, for that matter).

For those of you who don’t remember what the HTC Flyer was all about (after all, the slate was released almost a year ago), let’s just say that you get a snappy as heck 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch sensitive screen with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, 1 GB of RAM, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with auto focus, a 1.3 MP front-facing webcam and a pretty hefty battery capable of running for around eight hours on a single charge based on medium use.

You also get Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, a micro USB port, a microSD card slot, G-sensor, light sensor and Digital Compass, while, as I already mentioned, the pen stylus is available separately.

All in all and taking into consideration the fact that the HTC Flyer is currently available for around 400 bucks on most online stores, today’s Buy.com deal is nothing less than a steal.
