Google Android Training gives development lessons for making better apps

Google is providing extra resources to developers looking to create or improve Android apps. Announced last night via a Reto Meiers post on the Android Developers Blog, Android Training is a new set of classes and tools that “demonstrate best practices for solving common Android development problems.” And that education is all free.
Android Training isn’t a typical online course with a remote professor. Classes are more of the self-learning variety. A class focuses on one small topic – like Designing for Multiple screens, or improving layout performance – and then provides a series of “lessons” that are detailed tutorials on how to accomplish a goal. By the time the budding developer finishes reading each lesson and exploring the sample app that accompanies a class, he or she should have a good foundation for better understanding the concepts that go into building an Android app.
“We’re starting small and this is just the beginning for Android Training,” Meier said in the blog post. “Over the coming months we will be increasing the number of classes available, as well as introducing over-arching courses and sample apps to further help your development experience.”
After taking a look at some of the classes in Android Training, it’s clear there are some prerequisites. The average person with zero coding knowledge probably won’t gain much from it, but a developer with some coding experience who is looking to work with Android will likely benefit from tutorials that show how to make better apps – especially when those tutorials are directly from Google.
