Spanish-language broadcast network Univision has released its official Android apps for television and radio. Both apps provide tremendous access to Univision, adding plenty of content geared for either media format.

Univision, as in the app for the TV network, is a nice resource for news, photos, and video clips from Univision’s programming and website. The Android 2.1+ app offers galleries and articles for beauty and fashion, finance, sports, music, cars, novelas, and entertainment. There’s also a section dedicated to soccer that organizes according to leagues in Mexico, the U.S., Central America, South America, and Europe. Users can even set their location to be a major market in the U.S. – like Atlanta or Miami – and have local news in the Tu Ciudad section.

Of course, no Univision app would be complete without content from the network, and there’s plenty of that. While testing the app, I watched about 10 minutes of a full episode of El Gordo y La Flaca in stunning quality. I didn’t see any other show with full episodes, but there were plenty of extended video clips from shows like Primer Impacto and Sabado Gigante, and special content from The Latin Grammy’s. The video quality is crystal clear and loads very quickly on Wi-Fi, though results on 3G may vary.

Univision Radio is simply a streaming solution for the 45 radio stations owned by the company. Users can browse through all the listings according to genre (Classic Rock, Hip-Hop, Latin Pop, Tejano, etc.) or city to begin broadcasting the live feed. Stations can also be marked as favorites for easy bookmarking. Listeners can see station playlists to get song info, get podcast info, see videos, and get a direct dial to the station for requests or contact. And though you can narrow the list to nearby stations, it thankfully plays any Univision station in America, allowing you to listen to your favorite should you vacation or move.

Strangely, I can’t find a way to exit out of the app and its annoyingly persistent icon in the notification window. I can only hope that Univision wisely fixes that immediately.
