I recently discovered the joy and unfettered awesomeness that is the cinematic gif. Soon after, I started wishing that there was a way to set some of these images as my live wallpaper.
So imagine how happy I was to discover that such a thing as possible thanks to an app called AnimGIF Live Wallpaper 2. With this app, I can set a gif image as my live wallpaper. Moments after discovering this app thanks to a comment made on Google Plus, my static wallpaper was replaced by an image with dynamic elements.
AnimGif Live Wallpaper has a few settings that can enhance the way a .gif displays, and image quality will vary depending on size and phone model. For instance, a 600 x 300 pixel image will not look good on an HTC EVO 4G because the phone has a 800 x 480 resolution. That’s why it is important to use the resize menu and optimize the way the image looks. A picture can be resized to Center, Stretched to fit on one panel, Fit to Screen, and Fit Vertically to spread large images equally.
Other settings include the ability to set how fast images change, the quality of the resize, speed switching between screens, and Frame cache to balance memory and battery consumption. The one setting that cannot be changed is that a small watermark is placed just above the bottom dock in the free version. Upgrade to the $1.99 version to remove the watermark and support the developer.
