Today, Acer announced the Iconia Tab A100. The seven-inch Android 3.2 tablet is the first to run Honeycomb at that size. This release shouldn’t come to anyones surprise. It’s been a few months since Acer first showed off their 7-inch Android slate at MWC, and now its officially up for sale in the United States.
Lets get to the specs, shall we? The A100 sports an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU, a 1024×600 capacitive touch display, a 2MP front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera with 720p HD video capture, and an advertised 5 hours of battery life. That’s not very encouraging considering that larger tablets claim 8 to 11 hours of battery life, but this may offer more portability.
Connectivity for the A100 includes: WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, along with microUSB 2.0 and a microHDMI port for hooking the A100 up to a bigger display. There’s also a gyroscope and digital compass, 3.5mm headphone socket and a docking station connector.
The sticking point for consumers may be the price. Three versions of the Iconia Tab A100 are available, starting at $329.99 for the 8GB flavor, and the 16GB price increases to $349.99. A Walmart exclusive version of the tablet mirrors the specs of the 8GB model. This product will likely be aimed at consumers who don’t feel comfortable spending $500 and up for a tablet. Much like it’s bigger 10.1-inch predecessor, I wouldn’t be at all shocked if this 7-inch version receives a hair cut on its original retail price.
With a price cut, this slate will line up against some of the popular e-readers out there, like the Nook, the HTC Flyer and the original Samsung Galaxy Tab. Tell us if this is a Honeycomb tablet you would pick up? Is the price about right for your pockets?
