Today seems to be a good day for Android rumors, and this story is no different. According to an industry analyst in Los Angeles, the first U.S. carrier to get the incredibly popular Galaxy S II device. Paul Mueller, the analyst who is making the prediction, says that it will be called the Samsung Function, and could arrive in Verizon stores as early as August 12.
“I’m not sure about the exact date, but I’ve been told that August 12 is a possibility. It will arrive first on Verizon and then the rest of the carriers within a month. Samsung will market this directly against the iPhone 5,” says Mr. Mueller.
There are a number of things to point about about this rumor. First, there is the fact that we have yet another alternative name for a GS2 device. As mentioned earlier, the AT&T version maybe be called the Attain. This seems to make sense, as carriers seem to be making thier versions fo the phone differnt from the base device.
The second deatil is that release date. We had heard that the Galaxy S II devices would be coming to the U.S. in August or Spetember. The 12th seems a little odd only because its a Friday, but any day in that range would make perfect sense.
What we don’t have here is any details on the Function being a 4G LTE device. It seems like that would be strange for that device to come out before the Bionic. back when it was announced, the Bionic was touted as the key device for Verizon this year. I’m not sure that they would cannabilize thier sales by releasing a 4G LTE GS2 mere weeks before the Bionic.
What are your thoughts on all these leaks? If you had to chose, would you pick a Samsung GS2 or the Bionic? Let us know in the comments below.
