This is the confirmation we were all hoping wouldn’t come. Some rumors, you just don’t want to be true. Unfortunately, it looks like the Droid Charge will be clocking in at a whopping $298 on-contract, as confirmed by a leak of a Wal-Mart flyer.
The Droid Charge specs are stacking up like this:
- 1 GHz single-core Hummingbird CPU
- 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen (480×800)
- Android 2.2 (Froyo)
- 8 MP rear camera capable of 1080p video capture
- 1.3 MP front camera
- 2 GB Memory
I have to say that those specs don’t match up with what I’d expect from a $300 phone. The Wal-Mart leak also puts the off-contract pricing of the Charge at $700. As shocking as the price may seem, it’s not all that far off from what we’ve seen from other Verizon-only LTE devices, including the HTC Thunderbolt, which launched at $250 on-contract. Of course, we should keep in mind that original Best Buy leaks also had the Thunderbolt launching at $300, but unlike the Thunderbolt, the Charge’s price seems to be confirmed with a leak straight from Verizon.
What do you guys think? Is this phone worth it?
