Sony decides the creepy Android thumb ad needs a prequel

Last month, Sony Ericsson put out one of the creepiest commercials of all time, showing our lovable Android mascot in a seedy back alley warehouse after having gotten a brand new pair of thumbs. This time, SE thinks we need the story behind those thumbs.
Personally, I would think that they might be better served making ads that do something crazy like showing the phone in action, or maybe showing the games on the phone, but perhaps that’s why I’m not in marketing. I just can’t imagine how stealing a guy’s thumbs to attach to the Android mascot is going to translate into sales. But, I’ve also never been much of a fan of the Droid commercials. I understand that Android manufacturers don’t want to be accused of copying Apple by showing the phones in action and what they can do, but in general it seems like they may be turning too far down the creepy line.
What do you guys think?

I don't think they're creepy – I think the Xperia Play ads are interesting and different
Seriously, what is it with phones and creepy commercials?
no, that's pretty creepy. it's clever, too, but creepy, nonetheless.
