The HTC EVO 3D was announced today, and it’s surprisingly…good. I’ve dismissed 3D several times, but the EVO 3D is one of the first devices to make me not hate 3D on a mobile device. As for my thoughts: well done, HTC. The EVO 3D is about the size of my current EVO and adds more features without being too bulky. The flagship feature – 3D viewing – also has better viewing angles that actually makes it worth while. A demo of Green Hornet actually reminded me of watching 3D content on larger screens, rather than muzzled impression that I got when looking at the LG Optimus 3D. It can snap photos and videos and display them back in an acceptable manner. Not perfect or as good as you get on a large screen obviously, but the best I’ve seen so far among devices that embrace the 3D gimmick.
The HTC EVO 3D represents Sprints continuation of last year’s big trend – powerful Android phones – with what some analysts believe will be another big trend in 2011 – 3D entertainment. Television makers made a major push for 3D in 2010, yet progress on the big screen has so far fallen well short of expectations. Could we see stronger adoption on small screens because lower costs and frequency of upgrades make it easier to embrace 3D on an Android phone?

Also, is any of the sense interface in 3D? Or just a 3D feel with that carousel?
I'm still not sure if 3D is my thing but qHD, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and 4G are definitely worthwhile features that make this phone stand out. I'm certain it'll get a very welcome reception when it's out for sale. i won't buy it for one specific reason…rooting to get AOSP. i like vanilla android. with the dual camera sporting 3d and the 3d resolution, it will be hell for AOSP developers like cyanogen to actually develop for this badboy. therefor, once rooted, it will be nothing but sense. kinda takes the fun out of android for me.
