T-Mobile not only revealed details about the 3D Honeycomb tablet LG G-Slate late last night, it also took the opportunity to officially announce the Samsung Galaxy S 4G. The handset will be available to customers in the U.S. later this month.
When taking a look at its hardware specifications, one notices that the Galaxy S 4G basically is a Vibrant with a few upgrades:
- 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen
- 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor
- 5 MP shooter with 720p camcorder
- Front-facing camera
- Android 2.2 Froyo
- 16GB memory card preinstalled
- 1650mAh lithium ion battery
- ST-Ericsson M5720 HSPA+ 4G modem
The movie Inception comes preloaded on the device, and so does apps such as Qik (for video chats), doubleTwist with AirSync, and Kindle. T-Mobile TV will also be featured on the Galaxy S 4G – an app that streams content from Fox, ABC, and more. The latest device to take advantage of T-Mobile’s 4G speeds will arrive within a few weeks, but no word yet on pricing.

The notable feature here is Android 2.2. I imagine that 2.3 will not gain mainstream adoption by the hardware manufacturers as they'll be looking at a post-Honeycomb version of Android for their flagship devices.
