Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, aka "PlayStation Phone"

Not that we had any doubts that the smartphone world’s least well kept secret, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, or the PlayStation Phone as it has been labeled so many times, would be launched at this year’s MWC, but now the company finally has made it official.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be one of the first big announcements at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of this week. According to Sony Ericsson’s Facebook page, on Sunday February 13th at 18:00 GMT, all the details about SE’s Android powered gaming smartphone will be revealed. The page tells us to “not miss the next gamechanger from Sony Ericsson, and more.”

If the rumored specs are true, this is what we can expect:

  • 1 GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 processor
  • Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU
  • 4-inch 854×480 touchscreen
  • 5 MP rear-camera
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 512 MB ROM
  • 1500 mAH battery
  • Noise Cancelling mic
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
