Why bother with something like the Samsung Galaxy tab, which only has one 7-inch screen, when you can have a tablet with two 7-inch screens? That’s the question posed by the world over, and answered by NEC with their newly announced LT-W Cloud Communicator.
The Cloud Communicator will feature:
- Two 7-inch TFT LCD screens
- Android 2.1 (ugh)
- ARM Cortex processor
- WiFI, Bluetooth and optional 3G
- 3 megapixel camera
- GPS + accelerometer
- ~5 hour battery life
So, the OS version is disappointing, as is the battery life, but the portability is nice (the device is just over a pound,) and being dual-screen, it has a built in screen protector case (which is going to be huge business for accessories with all the other coming tablets.)
The Japanese company NEC may want this to be a commuter device for the packed Japan trains, but commuting times in Japan can be pretty long, and I’m not sure 5 hours is enough to make it through, even if you only use the device on the train to and from work.
The Cloud Communicator will be out in Japan later this year. No word on any possible release anywhere else in the world.
