In Androinica’s 2011 Android wish list post, the last wish on my list was that manufacturers of Android phones would get better at updating its devices. Unfortunately, my wish has not been granted so far. Sony Ericsson arguably has the worst track record when it comes to upgrading its Android phones to the latest version of Google’s OS, and the company seems keen on holding on to the doubtfully desirable title in 2011.
Because Sony Ericsson has just confirmed that the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro won’t get any Android OS upgrades beyond Android 2.1 Éclair. It doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but it’s still a disappointment. To SE’s defense, the company will keep enhancing its X10-series, and users have a nice multitouch update to look forward to in Q1 2011.
Frustrated X10 owners can always take the matter into their own hands, get their root on, visit the xda-developers and flash a custom Froyo ROM.
