When I went to the Android Market on my HTC Desire today to see what’s new, I noticed that an additional tab called “Similar” had appeared next to the About and Comments tabs when viewing an app.

The Market must have silently updated itself in the background, and the new Similar tab simply shows related apps, according to various criteria. These are the lists of similar applications it provides for IMDb and Google Goggles.

Yesterday, we got to see a bit of official Gingerbread action thanks to a Chinese Google Voice Search video. Like Michael mentioned in his post, the video revealed an extra tab in the Market, and as it happens that new feature is already here. Hopefully more and more Google apps will be updated as we get closer to Gingerbread.

The new Market with the Similar tab should be available for most Android 2.2 devices – if not at this instant, then before long. Is anyone else seeing it yet?

UPDATE: You can try a trick that might bring the Similar or Related tab to you right now. From your home screen, press Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Market > “Clear data” and relaunch the Android Market.
