Words with Friends is a Scrabble game for iOS that’s so popular even Android fans might have heard of it. A tipster called Jordan asked the developer, New Toy Inc, about the chances of the game coming to Android as well.
As it happens, an Android version of Words with Friends is actually in the works, and Jordan has been bringing the good news ever since. This is the reply he received from the developer:
“We’ve since hired a team to develop an Android Version. They’re actively at work on it at the moment and are getting close to being done, so not too much longer!”
Apparently, Android users will likely be able to challenge people playing the game on iOS right from the start, since New Toy Inc later made this statement hinting at cross-platform multiplayer support:
“We are working on an Android version, but we’re not ready to share much more beyond that. Our goal is that it will be compatible with the iOS version from day one.”
On a side note, New Toy Inc, was recently acquired by Zynga who’s responsible for Farmville on Facebook. If you can’t wait for Words with Friends to be released and want to play Scrabble on Android right now, there’s a similar game called WordFeud in the Market.
