Will the ANZU be Sony Ericsson’s next flagship Android device? [Update]
November 10, 2010 | by Lars Aronsson
Rumors, Sony Mobile
The Xperia X10 has been Sony Ericsson’s flagship Android phone for quite a while, and considering that we’ve known about the device for a year now – isn’t it strange that we basically haven’t heard anything about its successor yet? Well, the Xperia X10 Blog has gotten its hands on a photo of what might be SE’s next top shelf Android.
According to an anonymous tipster, it’s codenamed ANZU and will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Anzu is said to rock a 4.3-inch touchscreen, HDMI output and come in a “very, very slim” design. Worth noting is that the handset in the photo is running Android 2.1. Are any X10 owners inclined to upgrade when/if the Anzu hits the streets?
Update: Another photo has appeared, showing just how thin the device is, and the X10 Blog has received some more info: the Anzu also goes under the name X12, can capture 1080p video and will feature a front-facing camera.

Please please please release it with vanilla android! Sony Ericsson's Rachael is sooooo bad.

Please let it be true and of course sport a multitouch screen this time around (poor X10). I need something to replace my Nexus One with next year and even though I hate the horrid N1 faulty screen, I still don't like anything else out there, but this baby can change it all. Sorry, if the rumors are true that the Nexus Two is to be made by Samsung, thanks, but no thanks…I'll definitely jump on with SE this time. HTC really disappointed me by not having a front-facing camera on the Desire HD nor is it available with US 3G support.
Xperia X10 had a lot of promise that was all forfeited due to a delayed launch. If they follow the pattern, ANZU will be released around mid-2011 with Android 2.1 on board. Hopefully SE has learned their lesson and will deliver this time. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the innovation happens on the hardware front and the Android platform is left alone in its vanilla state.
