Froyo coming to Canadian Vibrant and Captivate December, Fascinate next year

Samsung Mobile has announced its plans to upgrade the Galaxy S line of phones in Canada soon. On its Facebook page, Samsung confirmed that the Android 2.2 update will be delivered to the Bell Vibrant and Rogers Captivate in mid-December. Meanwhile, owners of the TELUS Fascinate can expect to receive the update in “early 2011,” a cautious window that likely means January – March.
A “tested and secure upgrade experience” is on the way, promises the Facebook status update posted yesterday evening. That experience has yet to be finalized but will bring Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface into the world of Froyo soon, though there are no details about how that update will arrive (OTA or Kies).
The Galaxy S has received strong praise for the overall value of the phones but has also been criticized for GPS problems and the slow upgrade path to Froyo. U.S. Galaxy S owners are expecting an update soon, and Canadian users have been just as demanding in their desire to get a new version based on the comments on Facebook. As one person put it, “Well, I guess 6 months after it was released is better than never,” but there are still quite a few who have decided that is too late to make them stick with Samsung.

Merry Christmas! Here's your 6 month old OS! Ginger what?
I'm a developer of an app that offers its most important features only when run on 2.2. We support 2.1 only because of the huge number of 2.1 devices still in the market, most of which are Galaxy S phones from Samsung. Device manufacturers like Samsung need to realize that their slow (and sometimes nonexistent) update policy hurts not only their customers, but also app developers who need customers running the latest OS so they can offer the best new features. Ultimately Samsung needs to realize in the end they get hurt as well. I've decided to pass on the Galaxy Tab in favor of some other device from a vendor that understands proper upgrade support.
You forgot to mention Rogers/Acer have already rolled out 2.2 for the Acer Liquid E this week
What the hell AT&T?! Why are you being like this? All I want is some satisfaction from a new update and you guys can't even do that right? It's been out for 6 MONTHS! For God's sake, hurry up!
att has nothing to do with this its samsung
man this is so rediculus. sprint get with the program!!! the Evo has 2.2 its time for some galaxy s love! surprise us with gingerbread instead if its gon take this long. im near switching to another company
Yes, Froyo is great and everything; but, still, all I keep hearing is a bunch of whiny babies about running off to another carrier all because they can't get the upgrade… boo hoo… my heart bleeds for you! Get over yourselves. It will come soon.
note to not so whiny-Free markets reward companies that serve customers best, and Samsung (and the carriers, through the pressure that they can/don't apply to suppliers like Samsung) should pay a sales and profits price for sloppy customer service. It's a little silly to expect customers who bought phones to wait six months for an OS that was already installed in other phones. I can assure you that I will not buy anything from Samsung in the future unless I can see it in front of me. There are too many other options.
Yea it looks like Samsung is taking lessons from Motorola now….. Remember the Moto Cliq and Cliq XT catastrophy? People are still waiting for those 2.1 updates that were promised!!!
It's mainly AT&T's locking down the software that's holding the update from being released. Come on I don't know about you but I LOVE ATT Navigator… Wait Google Navigation… Free… Gingerbread has already hit Nexus phones and we are still on 2.1 with a broken GPS. Never will I go Samsung again.
Hi Khyle what about the other carriers that dont have the update yet? Verizon wont get the update until next year. It not the carrier.
