The Android Developers account posted a video of team members setting up a large Gingerbread statue at the Googleplex, and we all know what that means: Gingerbread will be arriving soon.
In the past, Google has erected statues of its tasty treat codenames shortly before releasing the code for new Android devices. Now that the Gingerbread Man has been thrown into the mix, we can expect Google to release some info on Gingerbread soon. As for when it will actually show up on handsets…that’s a whole ‘nother story.
Google has released stats showing that about 3 out of 4 users are on Android 2.1 or higher. However, that still leaves a sizable number of people stuck on Android 1.5 or 1.6, and we’ve seen several companies not update their devices despite phones being perfectly capable of handling the upgrade.
So, while we dine on Gingerbread soon, let’s not forget our brothers and sisters still waiting in line at the bakery. Here’s a look at Android Developer Advocate Dan Morill and a group of other Google engineers loading the gingerbread statue.
