One of the biggest complaints we heard from Galaxy S fans was that only the Sprint version of the device, the Epic 4G, came with the physical keyboard. But that QWERTY lust means nothing to one Android phone who purposely destroyed the keyboard to make it more gaming friendly.

Phawx of BrainLazy.com wanted to build a gamepad mod that would allow him to focus on only the buttons used for his gaming needs. But since he uses Swype as the default text entry method, Phawx decided to go all-out and remove all of the buttons except those necessary to play the retro titles loaded in his emulator.

It’s a bit extreme, but I must admit that I’m a little envious. I always wanted a more familiar feel when using my G1 with emulators, and my use of them has fallen significantly since I switched to .touchscreen-only EVO. While, I wouldn’t go as far as defacing a QWERTY keyboard, more power to people willing to do it. Here’s how Phawx made the switch.
