Android 2.2 Froyo for Samsung Galaxy S has arrived (only in Scandinavia so far?)

According to numerous threads and forum posts over at xda-developers’ I9000 section, Samsung has finally released an official Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S. The Froyo upgrade is acquired via Samsung’s Kies or PC Studio applications and should be available now – at least in several European countries. However, instead of feeling happy about the update’s arrival, many Galaxy S owners at the XDA appear to be disgruntled. Among other things, users have lost the Android Market after the update, albeit a hard-reset will apparently take care of that particular issue. People also experience homescreen lags, but on the plus side, flash should work fine on the device now, as well as the a-GPS which seems to be vastly improved.
This post will be updated when we get our hands on more info about the Froyo upgrade. Has any Galaxy S users been able to download it? Have you experienced any issues, or are you pleased with Froyo so far?
Update: The Froyo upgrade is thus far only confirmed to be available in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland (Scandinavia).
Update 2: Samsung has finally made an official announcement:
The Android 2.2 upgrade will be available from the mid of October 2010 in the Nordic region and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world.
The Android 2.2 upgrade offers voice-controlled GPS through Google MapsTM with Navigation, faster performance by JIT(Just in Time) compiler. Additionally, further functionalities including Search in-browser, Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, improved customization options will be provided with OS upgrade.
- Google MapsTM with Navigation: GPS navigation system with voice guidance
- Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1: Allow the web browser to make full use of the whole web
- Setup Wizard: Quickly customize the GALAXY S and access networks with ease
- Home Screen/Menu Preview and Edit : Preview by pinch-zoom
- Search in-Browser : Google™, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary
According to BriefMobile, Froyo for the Galaxy S also features the following additions:
- Android 2.2 JIT compiler
- Adobe Flash Player 10.1 compatibility
- New Android Market with auto-updating
- Speed improvements
- Pinch-to-zoom homescreen flyover
- Improved default keyboard
- Quick links to “GPS” and “Auto rotation” toggles on notification bar added
- Slightly different graphics and transitions with app drawer and default icon dock
- Colored icons in settings
- GPS Fix
- Colored settings icons
- Media Hub
- Darker menu theme, navy blue color
- Better Exchange support
- Video records in MP4 format
- New Search widget
- New Gmail application

JUST GOT IT! no, hold on… it's just a dust on my screen… btw. Kies crashes doesn't recognize Galaxy S in the app manager. sort of bollocks me thinks.

I just installed 2.2 here in Sweden Before i had upgraded Kies to version 1.5.3.10093_80. Before that version my Galaxy S didn't show up in Kies. However, now i have the lost Market issue.
Just a follow up, after a factory reset the Market is back. Remember to backup important stuff before.
That made you loose the froyo upgrade as well?

did take 5 computers and 10 manhours to install kies and let it work on with my phone -.- BUT! android marked seems to have removed itself from the app list -.-
I have the same problem. I have now lost the Android Marked. Do you know how to find it?
I'm I correct in thinking that you will have to reinstall all your apps??
I upgraded my phone to froyo this morning. And I am really really dissapointed. All my icons on the homescreen has dissapierd, then all icons in the "applications screen" has become a big mess. The phone is much slower then 2.1 and the android market is missing. What is Samsung doing? Have they even tested it before the released it. Superb hardware with rubbish software is what it is. Never Samsung again if they don't release a fix very soon.
What really upsets me about the way company release upgrades is not that scheduling of release over geographical locations.. I can understand that.. What really upsets me is the fact that put out release that say that it is available in one locations.. and do not provide a schedule when it will be available in the other locations.. The companies have a rollout plan.. why dont they just advise when it is available in other locations.. If they simply provided a list of country and the date the upgrade is available.. that would make me happy.. No.. they expect that you continually search for the upgrades.. and that really upsets me
My market app is also missing. Does someone know if samsung planning to release a fix, or is there another way to get the market app back?
Upgraded yesterday and very pleased. Had to do the registry tweak to be able to upgrade through Kies. At first it was slow but after maybe the second or third reboot it all just worked faster. Issue with calendar sync in exchange is most anoying but everything else is just getting used to again. Btw i’m in Holland.
Hi, I wonder if you were able to fix this calendar sync problem. I am encountering the same problem after upgrading to Android 2.2. I would apprecite your help.

i got upgrade through kies and it works great, i am such a happy bunny, now have flash 10.1 uk user
i just updatet my galaxy yesterday (romania) with kies, but it is still 2.1, some options are changed, but the menu is still like 2.1. looked at the firmware and it is 2.1 "Baseband version I9000XXJM1"
@ Silcas, can you let me know the changes u did in registry to updae firmware, because i did the following and i just got 2.1update1 firmware and not 2.2 today.

IT'S HERE IN THE UK NOW! I just upgraded via the latest version of Kies I DL'd yesterday.
Hi guys just wanted to give you all a very easy upgrade option no matter where your from… I just did it and works perfectly, though after he upgrade you need to reboot the galaxy i9000 twice to fully restore everything and get it back up to speed. http://www.careace.net/2010/10/15/guide-update-ga… enjoy. it is really very easy.

Please add to new features: Pinch-zoom-out also works in Apps screen !!! (a bit laggy on more tnen 4 apps screens). Just updated yesterday to 2.2. in Romania (Orange).
FINALLY. Today my KIESS showing FROYO update!! And I’m successfully upgrade it. Nice works OPTUS!!! My Kiess is 1.5.0.170. I’m VERY HAPPY after LONG WAIT…. All my friends at my office start upgrading the FROYO!!! Froyo is Coming in Melbourne !!!
I upgraded yesterday and although i am very pleased with some of the new features it does seem to be lagging somewhat going between app pages and opening apps. is there anything i can do to fix this or is it just something i have to get used to? im in england by the way….
