The Yoda of Android homescreen development who just might eat widgets for breakfast, Federico Carnales, released version v0.7.8.0 of his LauncherPro app today. The developer has set his mind to create his own versions of the HTC widgets, and last week a nice Twitter widget was added to LauncherPro. This time around the main addition is a Facebook widget, as promised. It looks exactly like the Twitter counterpart, but the stream is naturally pulled from Facebook instead.
There are two different views: news feed and wall and you can of course create new status updates directly from the widget. You may tap on posts to open them, and you then get the usual Facebook feedback options. There is one annoying bug with the widget in its present state, at least on my HTC Desire: comments to posts aren’t displayed. This glitch will however likely be fixed in the next release.
Another addition that is available for all users is the ability to use custom icons and labels on homescreen shortcuts. Next up on the developer’s schedule is to add a widget that combines Twitter and Facebook, and then he’s apparently going to include “a very cool new feature” for Plus users, whatever that might be. You can download the latest version of LauncherPro through the Android Market or grab it directly from the LauncherPro website.
