We are sure that you have heard of the stocking problems that have plagued HTC’s Incredible since its launch. According to HTC and many other outlets the problem with the stock has been the lack of AMOLED screen production from Samsung. HTC made the decision to switch the Incredible’s screens to SLCDs because of the problems and it now appears that the new Incredibles are hitting Best Buy shelves in full force.
The new SKU number for the DROID Incredible with the SLCD screen is “ADR6300VW3″. This means that supposedly any new DROID Incredible buyers will be receiving the SLCD. There are a couple of differences between LCD technology and AMOLED technology, the most noticeable to the user will of course be the lack of saturation of colors on the SLCD. AMOLED technology has much, much deeper colors and deeper blacks as LCDs tend to have a “gray” or washed-out black tone. Also, the LCD screens will use a little less power than the AMOLEDs that came with the Incredible to begin with which may increase the battery life of the Incredible in the long run.
On another note, it looks as if these new Incredibles are shipping with Froyo right out-of-the-box. The software version on the box is 2.15.00.07.28 which is the same OTA update that was roled out in the last couple of weeks.
I have to say, being an Incredible owner with an AMOLED screen, I am much happier with the AMOLED screen than I would be with a more traditional LCD. The color is amazing and with a handy-dandy Seidio 1750 mAh extended battery, I am not really affected by the battery life problems as some others are.
Do you think that this new screen is going to sway people away from the Incredible to something like the Fascinate with its extremely beautiful screen or do most consumers not even notice something like this?

Gr8 news that incredible is back but SLCD may bring the Incredible craze down The early owners are already enjoying the AMOLED display lot of competition for HTC My recent post HTC Desire HD holds its breath – may need some time to be seen in North America – lacks 3G
yeah, i have to agree that AMOLED displays are the way to go. i find if you use your phone carefully by using dark colors everywhere then you can get a really long battery life. at http://bGoog.com you can even google with a black background!
I had a Nexus One and sold it primarily because of the standard AMOLED display…. I'd rather be able to see my screen outside in sunlight than have a slightly better contrast ratio and color saturation. I need that for my TV that I watch Blu Ray movies on, my phone needs to be usable outside.
