The limited edition R2-D2 Droid 2 will launch into hyperdrive and land into select stores this week. </starwarspuns>
The Star Wars-themed phone will go on sale September 30. For $249 with a two-year contract, The Droid R2-D2 will come with a R2-D2-themed face plate, live wallpapers, a special clock widget, and a binoculars app exclusive to the phone.
The Droid will be available for sale online and at select Verizon Wireless stores; if past Star Wars collectibles are any indication, they’ll probably be sold-out in a short matter of time (hours, not days). Contact your local retailer and get your camping gear ready if you have any plans on purchasing this phone.
In related news, there will be more Star Wars goodies exclusive to Verizon customers who don’t want to purchase the phone. The $2.99 download provides access to the following:
- Bounty Hunt Visual ID: Find and capture images around the Star Wars universe to unlock hidden content
- Sound and Photo Gallery
- Live Wallpapers:
- Blast the Probe Droid
- Luke Balancing Yoda
- Navigating the Asteroid Field
- Watch Bespin’s Cloud City
- Trivia Challenge: Answer trivia questions about The Empire Strikes Back
