VR Tunnel Live Wallpaper

Fans of live wallpapers may want to check out VR Tunnel that just graduated from the xda and made its debut in the Market. Live wallpapers are usually all about the eye candy and the wow factor, and this one is no exception.

VR Tunnel is developed by xda forum member chopsui, and the “motion sensitive holographic 3D effect” it brings to your homescreen is quite geek chic. The live wallpaper has a retro vibe to it, and is somewhat reminiscent of early virtual reality (hence the name). It has been beta tested by other forum members for about a week, and now the developer finally feels his digital creation is ready for prime time.

It may not be the prettiest live wallpaper I have seen, nor the coolest or most impressive, but VR Tunnel still has an unusual quality to it that’s hard to define. People will likely either love it or hate it. VR Tunnel basically shows cubes moving through a tunnel, and you can manipulate the animation by tilting your device and tapping the cubes. It’s customizable, and you can change the direction of the cubes, their speed and color, the color of the tunnel and more.

The developer claims that you need a high-end device to run VR Tunnel, and he’s not kidding: the animation is even a bit jerky on my HTC Desire that is powered by a 1GHz CPU.

VR Tunnel is apparently free for a limited time only, so if it sounds like your cup of tea I suggest you head to the Market and give it a try. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video should be worth around 30 000 words a second: check out the video below to get an idea of what the live wallpaper looks like.
