We all new that Sprint’s second 4G phone was coming but weren’t exactly sure when. Sprint, in the wee hours of the morning (or late night, depending on how you look at it) made the release details official for the Samsung Epic 4G.

The Epic 4G will be available on August 31st at a “pricier” price tag of $249.99 on contract. That $249.99 gets you quite a bit though; a 4″ capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen, a nice wide QWERTY landscape slider, Android 2.1, a 1Ghz Hummingbird CPU, and Samsung’s TouchWiz skin. The problem with the $249.99 price tag is that it is completely misleading; that price is after a $150 instant rebate as well a a $100 mail-in rebate. But, if history shows us anything it’s that when Best Buy get the Epic 4G it’s possible that all the rebates will be given up front.

And of course the question is raised, “what phone should I get? The EVO 4G or the Epic 4g?” Having only touched the EVO 4G myself it is definitely hard to say, but I have a feeling that the two are quite comparable. I do believe that with either phone you really can’t go wrong, but let’s just wait for those reviews to start trickling out to be sure of the Epic’s prowess. You can also check out Sprint’s video below that compares the two 4G devices.
