T-Mobile extends network with 4G speeds to 25 cities

T-Mobile
Plenty of people with compatible devices will be waking up to much faster speeds on T-Mobile today. T-Mobile USA has expanded coverage of its HSPA+ network, which offers 4G-speeds of up to 21 Mbps, to a total of 25 metropolitan areas. [Ed. note - There is some disagreement by carriers that HSPA+ is not "true" 4G, but since it is potentially faster than Sprint/Clear's 4G WiMax network, I'm not going to raise a stink since T-Mobile choose to refer to it as such.]
HPSA+ was first available in major metropolitan areas like Connecticut; New York City; Las Vegas; Memphis; Providence, RI; Upstate New York; and Washington, D.C. T-Mobile has since extended service to the following locations:
- Atlanta
- Bentonville, Ark
- Charleston and Anderson, S.C.
- Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, N.C.
- Dallas and Houston, Texas
- Los Angeles
- New Orleans
- Pittsburgh
- Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.
- Seattle
- Tampa and Orlando, Fla.
Not all Android devices are capable of using the newer speeds so don’t be surprised if you don’t receive faster speeds.
T-Mobile plans to expand HSPA+ coverage to 75 million more within the next two weeks, though it will not say which cities are on tap to get new speeds soon.

T-Mobile refers to their HSPA+ network as having "4G speeds," not as an actual 4G network.
eh, that’s semantics to me. edited just in case.
What good is theoretical speed when they won't fix signal strength issues? I just tested my N1 against speedtest.net, and got 0.64 Mbps download (yes, as in less than 1) 0.2 Up, and the phone shows 3 out 4 bars of 3g. I'm in north Atlanta. I know the N1 can't do HSPA+, but according to what I've read, all HSPA devices are supposed to get closer to the standard HSPA max when talking to a HSPA+ capable tower. I think the whole thing is a sham.
I live in Washington DC Area and I am able to get almost 3MB Download in some locations. I posted it on my blog: http://thelazzyone.tumblr.com/post/664200717/grea… . I have a N1 and I know it wont reach 21MB down but 2MB-4MB is quite good and there was no need to purchase a new device.
How do u know what phone is compatible with the new severvice? I have a g1.
In new Orleans and I got a huge jump in speed. Now I’m getting 4.00 MB down and 1.6 up. I was getting at most less then MB down. Like I said huge jump
Oh meant to include I’m on a nexus one with froyo.
