Google’s Cloud to Device Messaging for Android 2.2 seemed like a no-brainer when demo’d at Google I/O. A feature that allows you to discover content on the web and then send it to your phone; how did anyone not think to add that into a previous update?
Whatever the reason, it’s good to know that users can now send web links from their desktop to their mobile device with relative ease. The Chrome to Phone Extension is now available to Google Chrome users, and a Firefox FoxtoPhone extension provides identical functionality. All it takes is a download on your desktop (Chrome or Firefox), downloading and installing the Chrome to Phone apk, and then you’re on your way. We’ve got you covered if you need instructions on how to install an APK.
Thanks go to AndroidCentral.com for spotting this. Anyone who has Froyo can download the required files to begin sending links from the big screen to the little one.

I've been using a barcode reader and Firefox's Mobile Barcoder extension which works pretty well for the same purpose.
For some reason Maps keeps opening up in my mobile browser instead of opening the Maps app when sent via the extension. Is anyone else having the same issue? My recent post My thoughts on your ISP email
I have Google Bookmarks bookmarklet on the bookmark bar of Firefox and Chrome. Then my mobile browser has iGoogle as home page, with Google Bookmarks as the topmost item. So sending a link from desktop to phone requires two mouse clicks and launching the mobile browser. What's the difference between this solution and the Chrome to Phone extension+application? As a HTC Hero (GSM) owner Froyo apps are out of my reach… still waiting for the Éclair update.
