When Google announced the release of Android 2.2 into the wild, they made mention of the fact that it would be coming to the Nexus One and Moto DROID in “a matter of weeks” (sometime in June). We also assumed that with a full system image that shipped with 2.2 that it would only be a matter of time for all of the Android’s to get some 2.2 custom ROM love. But it looks like some N1 owners are getting their update much sooner than expected.
According to MG Siegler from TechCrunch, Froyo was rolled out to his Nexus One late last night. He didn’t give an extremely in depth review or anything, but did provide system setting screenshots which in fact show that his N1 is running 2.2. He also showed off the new search choices and commented on just how fast it really is:
I can tell you right away, as promised, Android 2.2 is much faster than Android 2.1. During the Google I/O keynote, Google promised a speed increase of 2x to 5x over 2.1 (and did a humorous demo with an iPad to show the speed) – it appears they weren’t lying.
Well that is always good to here.
He and other outlets, including Engadget have reported that other N1 users have also received the update. It looks like this is a very limited rollout as of now, but shows us that Google is serious about getting Android 2.2 out to users quickly. If you have received the 2.2 update on your N1 let us know how it is running in the comments below.
