Qik Video Chat for the HTC EVO 4G will cost $5 per month

Android Apps, Android Phones, Carriers, HTC, Sprint
It looks like the meaning of “Everything” is changing in the minds of Sprint. First we learned that the HTC EVO 4G would come with a $10 per month charge for premium data, and now it looks like users will also have to pay $4.99 a month if they want to use the Video Chat portion of the Qik app. Though, in fairness to Sprint, given that its noted as being paid via PayPal this appears to be a fee that will be paid directly to Qik. Still, whether the user is paying Sprint or Qik — these extra fees seem to be adding up for those that plan to take FULL advantage of the EVO and all it can do.

This makes no sense at all, if I can have it for free on my Droid why not on this phone???
You can still video chat for free with other apps, just not from Qik, so it seems. Qik has their own optimized version for the EVO and I guess that requires a premium for what has to be a some kind of premium service or ability that up to this point only the EVO can take advatage of. I take it other new 2 camera HD capable phones will also have a premium attached to them from Qik services.
Insult to injury? This is the last straw. Now even if the other carriers raise their prices to, I'll go to them instead of sprint because it was sprint who started raising rates. They get a little time with an advantage over the other carriers and it looks like they have been spending their energy brainstorming for ways to squeeze the customer. The EVO will be legacy before before long, the other carriers will get to 4G and Sprint will fall back into its place behind Verizon and AT&T. With the way they are shaking down their customers, I wouldn't be surprised if they fell further. f'em.
Again this is a Qik charge, it has nothing to do with Sprint. Another article surfaced suggesting that Qik confirms it is free on the EVO but there will be a premium service available for it that costs $4.99 per month. What that premium service is, I don't know.
