Android 2.2 adds sizeable speed increases to phone performance

Here’s another reason to get excited about the upcoming release of Android 2.2: MOAR SPEED!

Our friends over at AndroidPolice.com got their hands on the 2.2 build of Android and were able to test the speed increases of Android 2.1 vs 2.2. While the Nexus One running 2.1 had a Linpack score of 6.5-7MFLOPS, a Nexus running the latest version of Android scored 37.5 MFLOPS. That’s a pretty noticeable bump in speed.

If you’re unfamiliar with these terms and want more information on what they mean, head over to AndroidPolice to read the article in full and see how they arrived at these scores.

An update to 2.2 is expected to roll out to Nexus One owners after Google I/O, so look for those increased speeds shortly.
