Android phones no longer need a USB cable to update files thanks to the latest version of Missing Sync for Android. The PC and Mac desktop software now makes it possible to wirelessly sync files and data between an Android phone and a computer.
Missing Sync can transfer music, photos, contacts, notes and more without ever having to mount a phone via USB. The $39.95 software connects via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth whenever Android users want to add new photos or backup their downloads. Most functions are supported by Android 1.5 or higher, but syncing via Bluetooth requires 2.0 or higher. The new version also supports backing up text messages and searching through archives of SMS messages stored on a computer.
Missing Sync supports most Android phones according to its website. The software solution also offers the following functions
- Notes – Sync notes with Fliq Notes Android app and Outlook, Entourage, etc.
- Contacts- Sync contacts between Address Book, Entourage, or Microsoft Outlook
- Music – Sync iTunes or Windows Media Player playlists
- Photos/Video – Sync to and from iPhoto, automatically converts videos into suitable formats
- Ringtones – Edit song files into ringtones
- Podcasts – Subscribe to podcasts and download to phone
- Call History – Save call logs to the PC/Mac
Also in the works are the ability to sync iCal or Outlook calendars and tasks, as well as export Internet Explorer or Safari bookmarks to the phone.
[Thanks, Jeremy!]

Nice, I've been looking for something like this. $40 seems high-end, but it you need it, you need it!
Have you tried tunesync first? It's only $4 and works pretty well if all you're interested in is syncing music.
Don't forgoet, TuneSync allows sync over wifi/cell network while Missing Sync still requires a usb cable for everything but contacts. I point TuneSync to a DynDns and sync from anywhere. Info on TuneSync can be found here. http://highwindsoftware.com/
Your statement is inaccurate: This new version (1.3) of The Missing Sync supports wireless sync for media. You may want to review this additional material.

Nice but unnecessary. The free app FTPServer will let you set up your SD card as an FTP drive, which you then access from any computer. It works over wifi and even over 3G, if you don't have a wifi connection.
FTPServer and SwiFTP certainly have their uses, but how do they compare with an application that syncs contacts?
Oh, that's right… they don't.
And what about calendar? Can I sync it with missing sync? I need contacts and iCal entries sync only, but I do not want to pay $40 for this.. I'm currently using SyncMate for iCal and Contacts sync (sync them between Mac and Google and after they are transferred into my Android -http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html ). This tool may be not so convenient as you cannot sync data directly, but it is free and works fine. Any suggestions?
I paid USD39 for this product and I haven't been able to sync my contact ever since. I could sync all the musics and photos, BUT, not the most important item – CONTACTS. I have to use SyncMate to sync my contacts to google and then to my phone… (which works perfectly, just a bit troublesome).
I am using Motorola Droid… maybe that's the problem?
RT@Jenny,

As a convert from Palm to Android the one thing I miss is the easy syncing of Outlook with my phone. So I bought The Missing Sync for Android. Unfortunately it turned out as you suggested – a beta test version. In the list of bugs below we had to diagnose the second bug ourselves by putting a trace on the dialog between the Nexus and PC. The vendor was telling us that it was crashing because we had an old version of .Net! Bugs: 1. Only works provided “My Documents” is on your PC and not on a network server. This is a real show stopper! 2. Sync crashes if you have the character “ (rabbit’s ears) in a Note. (Bug in the JSOL parser.) 3. A process MSADSyncMarshal is started and won’t close when you try to shut down your PC. 4. A new note on your Android shows all the text as the name of the note, rather than just the first line. (However it gets it right when transferred to Outlook.) 5. If the first line of the note changes, the name of the note does not. We can’t get any commitment from Mark/Space to fix any of these bugs, and in fact they only started to take my steady stream of e-mails seriously when I sent them the trace showing the bug that crashed their product.
