Google, in their infinite update frenzy, has just updated Google Maps to version 4.1. Google says that this update is “introducing a few features that make sorting through search results or quickly seeing Maps info a bit easier.” I’m always for “a bit easier” especially when it comes to maps, an application that I tend to use in a hurry.
Some of the key features include an updated search page which gets rid of the usual search tabs at the top of the page and includes all the relevant search data and option on a single page. This should make searching and finding information easier and faster. Another added feature is the ability to swipe back to the list of search results from a single search page that Google is dubbing “Search n’ Swipe”.
Probably the coolest feature of the new update is the ability to add the Google Latitude Widget as well as the Maps Live Wallpaper for Android 2.1+ devices. This allows you see what Latitude friends are around you and even what traffic conditions are like at any given time. I really like when certain applications add a very useful widget for their apps as I feel that the home screen is the fastest way to get information that is important.
User will now also be able to switch their Google account for maps. If you have multiple Google accounts on your phone you can choose which account you want associated with Maps at any given time.
The update is available in the Market now. Get it while it’s hot.

This is a cool update. I really like the changes they have made. The process of searching and then navigating was really cumbersome before. The swiping for more results is awesome.
Has anyone noticed that is you search for Dunkin Donuts you can create a layer that has little Dunkin Donut icons on your maps? What other companies have this feature? I checked Mickey D's and they don't seem to be setup.
I know…I'm a health nut.
I Really like the traffic wallpaper.
I would like to create a custom map on a computer like you do with the mapquest click and drag feature. Then be able to upload it to my phone and use it for turn by turn directions. Is this possible with any current apps?
