Android 2.1 with Sense UI leaks out for the Droid, Droid Eris

Android OS, Android Phones, HTC, Motorola
Those using either the Motorola Droid or the HTC Droid Eris can go ahead and upgrade to Android 2.1 if they want. Of course there is a big catch that comes along with that statement. This is an unofficial upgrade path which is coming courtesy of leaked ROM’s. Still, for those that cannot wait any longer at least there is an option. And yes, these ROM’s do come complete with HTC’s Sense UI and according to the stories they also appear to be the official updates. In other words they are said to be the ones that are expected to come as the official OTA update. But again this is an unofficial update path and doing this may cause some issues in the future.
And for those that are feeling brave, that ROM for the Droid Eris can be found at the XDA Developers forum (link below). As for the Droid, check the information at Droid Life (link below). Personally I am sporting the Droid Eris, and despite how much I would like to update past 1.5 I think I can handle the extra wait.

Does anyone know how Sense UI handles Google Voice these days? I had a European HTC Hero (not the Sprint version), and I couldn't use the keypad dialer with GV. Dialing from my contacts list worked fine, but the Sense UI keypad didn't interface properly with the GV app. Anyone know if this has been fixed, if it'll work with these ROMs, etc?
BTW, I've upgraded to several of the 2.1 ROMs floating around out there, and I eventually downgraded to 2.0.1 again. Perf was just horrible, in my experience. It was OK at the very start, but rapidly slid into the toilet. Might be interested to try this one, but not holding my breath. There are reasons why the 2.1 release slated for the Droid is supposed to be neutered.
Jeremy Baldwin what do you mean that the “2.1 release for droid is supposed to be neutered”?…Are we not going to get the 3D launcher, 5 native home screens and live wallpapers?! Have you tried the droidmod version of 2.1?
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy…. You're not keeping up with Android news. 2.1 for the Droid won't have the 3D launcher or live wallpapers. Apparently everything else will be there though.
