Canada Android users get paid apps!
March 15, 2010 | by Andrew Kameka

Paid Android apps are now available in Canada. I repeat: Canadians can now download paid apps. A previous rumor suggested that the Android Market would be upgraded for Canadians to access priced Android apps soon, and I just received word from that the time has finally come.
Canadians have long been crying out for access to paid apps, a privilege previously unavailable above the 49th Parallel. Reader Froli13 just sent me a message saying he was able to buy his first app today on his TELUS HTC Hero. After Froli sent a screenshot confirming his purchase and reliable Canadian site MobileSyrup.ca posted a video, I started writing this post.
Congrats to all our Canadian readers, but let me remind you of three key points before you dash to the Android Market.
* Certain paid apps may still be unavailable or troublesome if your phone has not been upgraded beyond Android 1.5 (Cupcake). Apps designed for use on 1.6 (Donut) or higher are often incompatible with certain phones, so if you don’t see an app listed in the market, that’s probably why.
* You have 24 hours to change your mind. If an app is incompatible or disappointing, you have 24 hours to decide whether or not to keep it. Open the Android Market and go to your “Downloads” page to see the list of installed apps, select the app you no longer want, and press the refund button.
* App prices are listed in American dollars, British pounds, Euros, or Yen. The market lists app prices based on the currency used by the home country of the DEVELOPER, not the user. If someone in England releases a paid app for 5 GBP, the display will not convert the price into Canadian dollars. Be sure to consider that when deciding how much you are willing to pay.
Thanks for the tip, Oliver!

Finally!
Lucky sods!
Lets hope Norway (Nordic) is not far behind..
I'm on a Telus Milestone and I still can not see paid apps. What's the deal?
Breeze, try restarting the phone and then you should be able to access it based on the way the video showed.
I can see paid apps now on my Nexus One with a Fido SIM. But, when I browse inside a category I see the "Top free" & "Just in" tabs yet no "Top Paid" tab. Bug?
Same for me.
Note: I use a HTC Hero, not a Motorola Milestone like mentioned in the article
@AndrewKam
I’ve restarted the phone 3 times. I imagine it should have kicked in by now.
goto the applications. then goto all apps or select a catagory. press menu and push change view. you should see a menu of see all items, free items only, and priced items only. thats on my g1. but it should show some paid apps on the main menu on the top in featured.
Same here, I cleared cache, I restarted phone.. I even removed Market enabler, just to make sure..
but nothing
Nothing here with Telus Milestone also
Paid apps are only available for Rogers and Fido users! http://bit.ly/aYgIiV
Google has yet to list Canada as supporting paid apps. But maybe they just haven't updated their website yet?

Here's a screenshot of my purchase

So I believe Google just haven't updated their website.
It is updated now
My guess is that Tim Bray was a little frustrated at not being able to obtain paid Android apps on his Nexus One.
you cant sell though … that sucks for developers from Canada …
Looks like copyright-protected apps are still blocked
