Some Droid Eris users report getting Android 2.1 as an OTA update

Though the details are still partly unknown on this, it looks like at least some Droid Eris users are/have been receiving Android 2.1 as an OTA update. Of course, we are still trying to figure out what happened and how this update is being rolled out, but at the same time this post is serving more as a warning to those that may see the update available.
The update does not appear to be going smoothly. In other words, if you are a Droid Eris user and see an update is available, think twice before updating and if you choose to proceed make sure you have your data backed up.
Anyway, the reports from users that have gotten 2.1 include that once the update has been downloaded and installed they are no longer able to use any Google apps. Additionally, the update is also said to wipe all of their apps and data and is missing Sense UI.
Finally, according to Verizon, a “newer” version of Android is in the works but has not been officially released. Sounds like someone messed up a little when pushing this latest ‘update’ out. In the meantime, and once again, if you are a Droid Eris user — think twice before updating right now.

I am running 2.1 on my Eris and it does have the HTC UI with it. I work for Verizon and got my copy from area data guy by doing a hard reset and booting from his SD card. Just thought I would let you know. It is scheduled to push out ota by the end of 1st quarter this year.
