Samsung Galaxy i5700 to get Android 2.1 in Q2
February 4, 2010 | by Andrew Kameka
Samsung
The Samsung Galaxy i5700 has languished on Android 1.5 while older phones have already been updated to Android 1.6. Galaxy i5700 owners will finally get a newer version of Android as early as April or May, and they’ll be jumping straight to Android 2.1.
TechRadar reports that the Galaxy i5700 phones carried by 02 UK will be updated some time in Q2. That could mean as early as April or as late as June since carrier testing may add a slight delay to the release. 02 has a reputation for thorough testing on updates, which could lead to delays according to TechRadar. Galaxy phones tied to phones on other networks will be available on a case-by-case basis.
The news was first reported by Telix.pl, which was confirmed by the Polish division of Samsung.

The picture shows a Samsung i5700.
Indeed, the text says 'I7500' but the picture shows a I5700 "Galaxy Spica" which is several month newer and has a different hardware.
Please clarify whether you really meant the I7500 Galaxy or the I5700 Galaxy Spica
My recent post *IX Desktop LXDE
The i7500 is the phone being updated. Sorry for the mix up in the image library.
Thank GOD it’s the I7500! I’ve been stewing about getting the I7500, and then immedeatly fall behind when 2.0 and then 2.1 came out.
I’ve been sending some pretty stongly worded messages to Samsung, about their support for the phone.(or lack there of)
You just made my day! Thanks!
Now it's totally confusing.
First sentence still says i7500?
which Phone gets the UPDATE ??? i7500 ???
I’m going with comment #3, the writer of the article. I7500.
its i5700 everybody pls trust this post. i checked with other android forums and fan blogs, confirmed i5700, the galaxy lite or galaxy spica. DUN GET CONFUSED!
what about Samsung i7500 Galaxy?? plz let me know
The i7500 is in murkier water. There's been no confirmation when – or even if – it would receive the update.
I just purchased an I5700 SPICA. I have installed the PC Studio software supplied in the pakage. Software installed succesfully. When I connect the Mobile to USB port , I can see the device Icon in PC Studio window. But when I try to open the device I get the error message "Unsupported Device". Further when I try to upgrade the device software through PC Studio I get the similer message that the device does not support the software upgrade. Kindly help me out .
2 Amjad turn off the device and then turn it on
still doesnt work yaar
dOES anyone have problems with PC studio of i7500??? I am facing facing problems similar to Amjad’s…
Strange thing, here it goes,
When i start up NPS and i connect my spica, i get a popup with the message: Only device update available.
When i want to update it says: divice not supported, only filetransfer.
The last is true, i only can transfer files. But in the beginning NPS told me only update…
NPS is deffinately is the baddest phone software for android, i hope Samsung will update NPS for android, or better, develope new software that work with android.
I also have read on a site that there is other software available to update.
Does someone know what software this is and maybe also where to find it?
Many thanks!
Sorry for some wrong writing words, i'm from the Netherlands.
Internet browser of i5700 do not play the embeded videos. Can anybody suggest any solution to this problem. For example when I open th BBC News website I am not able to see the linked videos.
The facility to update i5700 phones software through PC Studio is currently going through the testing stages and is not yet available. There have not been any software updates released for the Galaxy Portal at this point in time.
Thanks Amjad, good news that Samsung is working on NPS for Android.
I think it wil come out with the upgrade to 2.1.
I could not access https pages on my Galaxy Spica GT-I5700 running Android 1.5. Now, it's been upgraded to 2.1 but the problem remains. Has anyone experienced the same problem and can confirm this? The Samsung support guys say it is not a phone problem, but the https server problem.
After spending 2 hours with the Telco (Starhub) support, the fantastic support lady with the help of the Motorola Milestone promoter, helped narrow the problem to the Samsung provided browser. Running Opera Mini allowed https pages to be accessed. Seems to be a bug in the Samsung browser.
You are right
