HTC Desire ROM loaded onto a Nexus One already

The HTC Desire and Nexus One have similar physical builds and specs, so it’s no surprise that someone would try to load one ROM on the other, in this case porting the Sense-powered Desire ROM created by HTC onto the Nexus One.

Modaco Forums member Paul has posted shots of a Nexus One with Sense UI on it. Flash 10.1 for Android is included in the ROM and it “works well” according to Paul. Getting the bottom four keys to work initially provided some problems, but Paul has since managed to get that working, along with the camera, face recognition, and touch focus.

Loading the Desire ROM onto a Nexus One isn’t without issues. At the time of writing this post, the “system.img” file is too large to fit on the N1. Paul got around that limitation by taking a few things off the system partition, though he didn’t specify what was removed. Other issues include the FM radio loading but not playing any sounds or finding radio stations, and the ROM is watermarked.

Paul isn’t sharing the ROM just yet but promises to release something when he can acquire a release without a watermark. Though Nexus One owners won’t get immediate satisfaction, they can at least take comfort in knowing that – as expected – you will be able to load Sense on rooted Nexus One phones sooner or later.
