The Nexus One just got a high-profile nerd endorsement, as Linux creator Linus Torvald called the device a “winner” in his blog.
“I no longer feel like I’m dragging a phone with me ‘just in case,’ I would need to get in touch with somebody – now I’m having a useful (and admittedly pretty good-looking) gadget instead,” Torvald wrote.
It’s not just that Android is based on Linux either, as he says the G1 and various Linux-powered Motorola phones weren’t up to par. Of course, he’s by no means a standard user. He makes it clear in the post that he doesn’t really feel it’s necessary to have any cell phone, and he digs the Nexus One because of its GPS navigation features. I’m not sure the Nexus One had a nerd cred problem but this should eliminate any traces of that. Now, if only the mainstream would catch on.

The Nexus One is really the first of the next-gen phones. That, plus the un-revolutionary pricing, and the fact that T-Mobile is stupid enough to only give pricing incentives to non-T-Mobile customers, means I'll be hanging on to my G1 till either the second wave hits, or they drop the Nexus price in a few months.

The Acer Liquid predates the N1 by almost a month and has harware specs to match it (although it's underclocked). It falls behind the N1 on OS version (a temporary issue) and publicity and quite frankly looks a lot nicer, not to mention costing a big chunk less.

smaller screen, weaker battery, not OS 2.1, no flash for cam, phone is slightly thicker and looks well is opinion based. Not to mention the phone isnt that much cheaper. On avg it is 400 bucks.
